Artistic statement

Text lives in my head in untidy patterns.

Not in the neat order of math boxes, but words playing in (dis)order like a busy chalkboard, searching for each other, attempting to build new axes or break into multidimensional existence.

I began as a performer, starting early as a co-director for musical showcases. But a hunger for my own voice, pulled me into the craft of shaping stories. No longer waiting for scripts to be handed to me, I began building texts from the inside out, driven by a simple but foundational formula:

Sentence after sentence, my voice emerged with curiosity and fluidity across mediums: audio, visuals, stage.

My practice is grounded in the deconstruction of how the Black African is represented, and in the experimental forms and critical narrative methodologies that make that deconstruction possible. I am drawn to contrasts held in conversation: the real and the abstract, the traditional and the contemporary, movement and stillness.

Collaboration is central to my process; I work closely with performers, writers, film-makers, sound-engineers and audiences, allowing my work to evolve through exchange rather than limited to my own prescription.

In the end, work that emerges prioritises experience over explanation. I create work that invites audiences to feel, question, and linger rather than arrive at fixed conclusions.
